COMMISSIONERS APPROVE $218,888 FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SALES TAX PROGRAMS
Kennewick, WA – Today, November 6, 2018, the Benton County Board of Commissioners approved funding for additional projects from the Public Safety Sales Tax, for an additional amount of $218,888.

$88,888 for Kiona-Benton City School District Crime Prevention Program
Funding from the Public Safety Sales Tax continues to support the Kiona-Benton Crime Prevention Program, which seeks to reduce and eventually eliminate gang and other criminal activity for young people age 14-21 in the Benton City area of Benton County. Specifically, this project will target young people who have dropped out of public school or who are in danger of dropping out of school and connect them with an advocate to help them access necessary mental or medical health services, and educational and vocational resources. Continued funding for this program would support resources for staff and a parenting class. For more information about this program, please contact: Wade Haun, Director of Federal Programs for Kiona-Benton City School District, at 509-588-2000.

$130,000 for Mirror Ministries Human Trafficking Outreach & Intervention
Funding from Public Safety Sales Tax would continue to support the Mirror Ministries Human Trafficking Outreach & Intervention program, which provides outreach, prevention, and intervention services to at-risk populations, specifically those persons victimized or at threat of being victimized, by domestic sex trafficking. Over 100 victims have been served, with more than one-third of clients affiliated with a gang in their trafficking. Continued funding would support resources for staff and educational resources. For more information about this program, please contact: Tricia MacFarlan, Executive Director, at 509-783-5730.
